LASIK is a laser vision correction surgery that is popular and widely performed. LASIK can drastically improve vision to significantly reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses or contact lenses. At Advanced Laser Center in Oklahoma City, our experienced LASIK surgeons offer advanced vision correction options at affordable prices.
How Does LASIK Work?
LASIK is a refractive surgery, meaning that it is performed to adjust the way light is processed by the eye, which in turn can improve vision. Many common vision errors occur because light does not filter properly through the cornea, which is in the front of the eye, to the retina, in the back of the eye. These refractive errors create distortion or difficulty seeing at certain distances. LASIK works to improve vision by changing the shape of the cornea.
What Can LASIK Treat?
LASIK eye surgery can be used to correct common vision problems including:
- Nearsightedness (Myopia)
- Farsightedness (Hyperopia)
LASIK Technology at Advanced Laser & Cataract Center
Advanced Laser & Cataract Center utilizes state-of-the-art technology to offer you highly advanced LASIK laser eye surgery in Oklahoma City. Our LASIK surgeon performs laser eye surgery with the WaveLight Refractive Suite, which includes the FS200 Femtosecond Laser and the EX500 Excimer Laser. The FS200 is the fastest and most efficient femtosecond laser available and is used to create the corneal flap in just six seconds. The EX500 Excimer Laser utilizes Wavefront Optimized and Wavefront-Guided treatment to reshape the cornea and provide fully customized vision correction. This system integrates advanced laser technology to optimize your LASIK results.
What Can I Expect During My LASIK Surgery?
Your first appointment at Advanced Laser Center in Oklahoma City will be a consultation appointment during which the eye doctor will examine your eyes, assess your vision, discuss your medical history, and explain your vision correction options. If you are determined to be a good candidate for LASIK you’ll be given pre-operative instructions before your scheduled LASIK surgery, which may include refraining from wearing contact lenses before surgery.
The day of your LASIK procedure, your eyes will be numbed using anesthetic eye drops and you may be offered a mild sedative to help you relax. Your LASIK surgeon will use the FS200 femtosecond laser to create a small flap on the surface of your eye to access the underlying layers of the cornea. This corneal flap is folded back and a second laser, the EX500 excimer laser, is then used to precisely reshape your cornea. After the treatment is complete, the corneal flap is laid back into place and will act as a natural, self-sealing bandage as the eye heals.
After LASIK surgery, you should plan to have a friend or family member drive you home and you will need to rest for the remainder of the day. You may experience some temporary mild irritation or discomfort, which can be treated with over-the-counter pain medication. Your LASIK doctor will provide you with detailed post-surgical instructions and schedule you for follow-up appointments to monitor your progress. Patients typically resume regular activities within two days, although strenuous activity will be restricted for at least one week.
LASIK patients typically experience improved vision right after surgery! LASIK has a very high patient satisfaction rate, and many patients love the sense of freedom that they feel. Many LASIK patients feel more confident and appreciate the convenience that LASIK can bring to their lives.
