Pre-operative LASIK InstructionsUndergoing Oklahoma City LASIK is a great option to consider if you would like to enhance the overall quality of your vision. In terms of the surgical process, patients must follow all of our instructions to the letter. That goes for the post-surgical recovery and the pre-operative preparation for LASIK surgery. By following our guidelines, patients can help ensure the best possible LASIK surgery results that are free from complications or long-term adverse side effects.

Preparation is of the Utmost Importance

By preparing for LASIK, patients will actually help make an Oklahoma City eye doctor‘s job easier. The process can be weeks long, but it’s well worth it in the end since it allows for efficient form refractive surgery care.

During the initial consultation, we will be able to assess the overall health and condition of your eyes. In some instances, we may find that you are a better candidate for a LASIK alternative, such as photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). After defining the exact treatment option for you, we will provide you with instructions accordingly.

Refrain from Wearing Contact Lenses

Contact lenses can alter the shape of a person’s corneas. Since refractive surgery involves the reshaping of the corneas, LASIK surgeons will ask their patients to refrain from wearing contact lenses for a few weeks. This will allow the corneas to achieve their natural shape that the eye doctor will then correct.

Quit Smoking and Drinking

Both smoking and drinking can affect the healing process for Oklahoma City bladeless LASIK patients. We ask that patients refrain from both activities for a few weeks before and a few weeks after so that they heal as quickly as possible.

Arrange for Transportation and the Company of a Loved One

After LASIK, patients will not be able to operate a vehicle safely for a few days. It’s important that patients arrange for transportation to and from the practice on the day of LASIK surgery. In addition, we ask that patients have a loved one stay with them for the first days after surgery to help around the house.

Fill Prescriptions Ahead of Time

Rather than rush around the day before surgery or the day of surgery to fill any prescriptions or pick up medications, we recommend that patients accomplish this a week before surgery is performed. This will help reduce stress in the day before or days after surgery.

Preparation on the Day of LASIK Surgery

On the day of your LASIK surgery, we ask that patients wear no makeup or jewelry. Comfortable/loose-fitting clothing should be worn. Patients should not use any creams or lotions on the face (especially around the eyes). The most important thing is to be in a relaxed state.
