What if I'm not a candidate for LASIK? What are my Options?
The Advanced Laser Center offers several vision correction options for those who are not LASIK candidates.
1) PRK - Very similar to LASIK except the surface corneal cells are removed and allowed to grown back over 3 to 5 days while wearing a bandage contact lens. The vision steadily improves over 2-3 months. PRK is an option for thin corneas and irregular corneas.
2) Clear Lensectomy - Similar to cataract surgery the natural lens is removed and replaced with an implant. Special implants can give you distance vision, monovision and multifocal vision that gives you both distance and near. Talk to our doctor about the lens option for you. We are excited to offer 3 very exciting lens technologies. The Restor, Rezoom, and Crystalens options can minimize a patients dependency on glasses for distance and for near vision. Clear Lensectomy is avaliable to all of our patients over 40 years of age.
3) INTACS - Corneal rings have been an option for many years. The popularity of LASIK has over shadowed INTACS. This is a great option for low prescriptions, thin corneas and even conditions with irregular corneas. Keratoconus disease has been included in a new FDA approval. INTACS is reversible and is FDA approved.
4) AK - Astigmatic Keratomy- using special microblades, carefully placed incisions will normalize the shape of the corea reducing or elimating
astigmatism and improving your vision.
5) ICL - Intra-Ocular Contact Lens - The ICL is great for very nearsighted patients. We have seen incredible visual outcomes and the great thing about the ICL is that the cornea is not touched, so for corneas that are too thin for Lasik or PRK, or corneas that are not healthy, ICL is an incredible option.
